Is The Energy Market Stabilising?

We are now into the 7th month of the year, and with that comes a more stable outlook. Read on to find out the latest energy market news, and what this means for you:

The energy market has returned to a more stable position following a marked price spike around a month ago, caused by large production outages in the Norweigen gas fields. Current typical rates a pub may be offered are about 30ppkW for electricity and 8p for gas, although the best rates can be 25p and 5p respectively. These lower rates are often associated with much larger standing charges, which are something of a counter-balance. Many suppliers remain reluctant to take on pubs or may impose additional costs, such as a premium.

As we move closer to winter, it’s likely that the market will react more readily to any perceived threat to gas supplies, which will be used to product around 50% of electricity. Consequently, prices may start to tick up in the coming weeks and months.

A one or two year contract I would suggest is the best option as prices are unlikely to drop much in the next 18-24 months. Longer contracts are best avoided.
