Energy Update
Energy Update — 6 November 2025
Mild winter forecast eases the price risk; Tomato Energy fails on 5 November leaving 8,000 business customers awaiting Ofgem's supplier-of-last-resort decision.
Market Update
As we move into the winter months, the weather seems set to be the key factor in how prices will move. Forecasts for the coming 6 weeks suggest that the UK will see temperatures and winds above the seasonal average. If these forecasts are accurate, we can expect prices to drop over the coming month. Conflict in the Middle East impacting prices remains a possibility, but less so than at any other point in 2025.
Current European gas storage is stable at 83% and UK reserves have increased to 62%.

Business Energy Costs
Both commodity and contract rates continue to fluctuate within a limited range. The averages quoted, mask a spread of rates which vary from 22p to 26ppkW for electricity and 4.2p to 6.5ppkW for gas. Credit risk remains the biggest challenge, a few suppliers still won’t accept any new hospitality business, regardless of how healthy. New limited companies have fewer options, often including those suppliers which have the poorest customer service and harshest T&Cs.

Supplier Challenges
Supplier attitudes and service levels are largely unchanged. Service levels vary widely, those linked to unscrupulous sales are likely to offer the worst costs and service mix.
Tomato Energy failed on 5th November, and any pubs that are some of their 8,000 business customers, are advised to take meter readings now and wait to be informed which supplier Ofgem appoints. No doubt pubs will be inundated by sales calls urging them to sign with another supplier now. Customers are to be reassured that their supplies are safe, and with the market stable, it is better to see what offer you get from your new supplier and compare options then.
