Office Renovation Week 3: Preparing Kitchens and Toilets

Week three focuses on kitchens and bathrooms, with strip-out work and early installations marking the next step in the renovation.
As we moved into week three of the renovation, attention turned to some of the most essential areas of any working environment, the kitchen and bathroom facilities.

At the start of the week, these spaces reflected the condition of the wider building prior to refurbishment. Fixtures were dated, surfaces worn, and in some areas, the existing installations were no longer suitable for continued use.

While not the most visually striking areas at this stage, these are critical spaces that will play an important role in the day-to-day functionality of the office.
Clearing and Preparing the Spaces
At the start of the week, the bathroom and kitchenette areas reflected the building’s previous condition, aged, worn, and in need of a complete overhaul.

The bathroom space in its initial state was very dated and run down.

The upstairs kitchenet was similarly dated and underutilised.

To create spaces that are functional, modern, and of the highest quality for daily use, both the bathrooms and kitchenette were cleared completely. Fixtures were removed, and walls and floors prepared, setting the stage for the installation of new, improved facilities. This approach ensures that these essential areas will provide more kitchen space and better bathroom facilities than those in the current office.

By the end of the week, early work on the kitchen had begun, including the fitting of sink units and cabinetry. These developments mark the first stage where the building starts to feel like a functional workspace, while the bathrooms now stand ready for the next phase of refurbishment. The progression across these spaces, from rundown to stripped-back and now to early build, highlights the careful planning behind this stage of the renovation.
Plumbing and Water Considerations
With the kitchens and bathrooms now cleared and initial installations underway, plumbing work has become a central focus. Ensuring reliable water supply, safe drainage, and fully functioning fixtures is essential for both areas to serve their intended daily use.

In commercial buildings, well-designed plumbing is not only critical for usability but also for managing water efficiently. Properly installed and maintained systems are essential not only for day-to-day operations but also for managing water usage effectively.
Well-designed plumbing and correctly installed systems can help reduce unnecessary water consumption, improve efficiency, and prevent issues such as leaks or pressure inconsistencies. As with other building systems, ensuring everything is installed correctly at this stage helps avoid complications later on.
As work continues, these underlying systems will support fully functional kitchens and bathrooms, providing a safe, practical, and energy-conscious foundation for the building’s future use.
Looking Ahead
With the bathrooms now stripped back and the kitchen beginning to take shape, week three marks another step forward in the renovation process.
While much of the work is still ongoing, these developments are an important part of preparing the building for everyday use.
There is still more to come as these areas continue to develop, and we look forward to sharing further progress in the next update. Stay tuned for the next renovation update.
